Alfalfa (from Arabic 'father of all foods') is a leguminous plant native to south-west Asia. It has always been considered the queen of fodder crops due to its high protein and vitamin (carotene) content. It is a formidable dietary tool capable of migrating the health, productivity and well-being of the animals that consume it. Alfalfa is also known for its remarkable beneficial properties in agriculture. It is considered an unparalleled improvement crop as it acts as a defence against weeds and enriches the soil with organic matter and nitrogen, making it ideal for rotational cultivation. No less important, the numerous mowings and continuous regrowth induce a strong absorption of CO2 with reduction of the greenhouse effect, thus protecting the environment.
